Before we go to the tips, you should be aware first that in a scent, there are different levels of intensity. A perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and/or aroma compounds, fixatives, and solvents that gives us a pleasant smell.
However, perfume types differ by the concentration of aromatic compounds in a solvent (water and/or ethanol). The quality of a perfume is based on the concentration, intensity and longevity of the aromatic compounds (natural essential oils / perfume oils) that is being used in the mixture. If thepercentage of perfume oils is higher, the intensity and longevity of the scent also increases.
There are specific terms used to describe a fragrance’s concentration basingby the percentage or volume of perfume oil present.
- Perfume extract, or simply perfume – consists 15-40% of aromatic compounds
- Esprit de Parfum or ESdP – consists 15-30% of aromatic compounds, a seldom used strength concentration in between EdP and perfume
- Eau de Parfum or EdP, Parfum de Toilette or PdT -consists 10-20% (typical ~15%) of aromatic compounds, sometimes listed as “eau de perfume” or “millésime”

In making the scent from perfume oils last through the day, knowing that perfumes and colognes like moist skin. Perfume or cologne is absorbed rapidly when you have dry skin because of the amount of alcohol in it. Thus, the scent will not last long on your skin.
Keeping your skin moisturized with an unscented lotion will help it last. You can also use a lotion that is the same brand with your perfume to help the scent last longer. If you don’t have a lotion to match, petroleum jelly works well too.
There are also parts of our body that is equipped with pressure points that are filled with blood vessels closer to your skin than any other point and act as little heat conductors. Wearing a perfume in these areas will help activate the oils. Effective pressure points for lasting perfume include:Behind the knees, ankles , the bend in your elbow, and behind the ears.
However, if you apply perfume or cologne before you dress, you will probably need to reapply because the cologne or perfume can be wiped away when you put your clothes on. It is better that you put your clothes on before wearing the perfume.
To make sure that you don’t get rid of your pleasant smell and in case the above tips gradually does not work, make sure that you have with you a small bottle of your perfume or cologne so that anytime/anywhere you can retouch.
